Hi to all who are looking into Woofenwag
I love what I’m doing,
I grew up with animals of all kinds
and enjoyed being with them.
Running an animal shelter for several years,
having spent 6 months as a vet nurse 43 years ago
(things were different then ;)
being educated at horse riding and having had my own for some years, riding for fun and sport, been a horse riding instructor, as well as volunteering in wildlife rescues, I accumulated a well rounded understanding of animals over the better of 45 years ........
I'm also a certified in Dog Behavior and training through the National Dog Trainer Federation
specialize in Assistance and Therapy dog's
But still learning ;)
I never thought that I was training animals
but educating them.
showing and telling them what was right or wrong,
what was expected from them.
Socializing your dog is one of the main tasks a handler has to do to end up with a great companion and trusting friend.
It does not matter if you seeking a companion dog or you needing a therapy or assistance dog.
To be well rounded they need to be socialized with as many day to day activities as possible. With events outside the home and other dogs, animals, the list is endless and depends on handlers personal circumstances too.
You could say
like you would bring up well rounded children,
they do not come easy & all have different temperaments.
Every child is different
Now guess what?
EVERY DOG IS DIFFERENT TOO!
To get to a great outcome yelling, threatening, beating, and bullying your child does not bring a happy outcome
does it now?
It would make them afraid
and at the end resent and fear you.
The same counts for your dog.
You cannot pick your children LOL
but you have a choice what dog to get.
So please do yourself a favor
Do not get a breed of dog just because it did play the leading role in that last funny cute movie you saw!
Trust me it will not do the dishes for you later on like the one in the movie ;)
Do not just go to a shelter and see the puppy with
“PLEASE PICK ME” eyes
and after 10 month it turns out these same eyes now are looking at you out of a 50kg dog, who just eat your favorite lounge chair & does not fit your lifestyle and has outgrown your backyard and ends up back in a shelter :(
Do some research about different breeds and there natural needs and behavior.
Compare with your lifestyle and what breed would suit.
I see lots of elderly people who get that
oh so cute little fox terrier :)
& it drives them mad :(
they are yapping the whole day at anything & everything, running and jumping around like a yo-yo.
THAT’S A FOX TERRIER &
THEY ARE BRED FOR HUNTING & GO GO GO
I’m more than happy to help you to find
a suitable fur friend ;) for you and your lifestyle
It is not enough to want a dog and feed it.
If that is all you want and have time for,
seriously please consider getting a video game.
I do not train, I educate a dog.
I do help handlers understanding their dogs.
I do NOT use the phrase “Dominate or Alpha”
too many people understand these terms
as overpowering the animal with all resources possible.
I’m leading the pack.
(If you look in wolf packs you have a leader and he cares about his pack)
So if you want a happy balanced friend for life
he needs to trust you.
YOU NEED TO EARN THAT TRUST
it does not just happen!
I have seen too many shelter dogs that are confused, afraid if not terrified because somebody did not care or did not know how to care correct.
I also believe in healthy dog food.
You will find several recipes of easy and healthy homemade dog food in
MY DOG FOOD section.
I do not believe in the commercial TV overload where a greedy industry wants to make a quick buck with rubbish what makes your dog sick in the long run. It sounds nice what they want you to believe but its rubbish.
Also I share some of
Planet Paws research & natural health options at my
DID YOU KNOW? Section
Planet Paws is on Face book and a wealth of information.
I’m happy to get you and your fury friend on the right path :)
